Hand-painted bags and totes

Something you carry every day, painted so it survives being carried every day.

Bags get handled constantly, put down on rough surfaces and loaded past their design weight. That makes them a genuinely different problem from a garment: the artwork has to sit on a structured surface and take abrasion rather than flexing.

Canvas and cotton

Heavy cotton canvas is the ideal surface — stable, absorbent and hard-wearing. Coated or laminated bags will not take paint reliably. Leather is a separate discipline and something we take case by case, not as standard.

Designs that suit a bag

A bag is seen close up and from one side at a time, so it rewards detail that a jacket would lose. Botanical panels, portraits, lettering and memory collages all work well on a tote face.

Durability

Painted areas are sealed and cured. Spot-clean with a damp cloth rather than machine washing, and avoid dragging the painted face against rough surfaces.

Festive and gift pieces

Potli bags, clutches and small festive pieces are frequently commissioned as gifts. These are small, detailed and quick relative to a garment — often the most practical option against a short deadline.
