Denim takes paint better than almost any fabric. The weave is tight enough to hold fine detail, heavy enough not to distort under a brush, and the indigo ground makes almost every colour sit well against it. It is also the item people are most attached to, which is why most jackets we paint already belong to someone. The finished artwork is painted directly onto the jacket by hand — not digitally printed or applied as vinyl.

What works on denim

Botanical and floral work across the back panel. Portraits and memory pieces. Lettering along the yoke or down a sleeve. Bold single motifs read better than crowded compositions — a jacket is seen in motion, from a few metres away.

Painting your own jacket

Send photographs of the jacket first, including any wear, fading or existing prints. Washed, unworn-in denim takes paint most predictably, but a well-loved jacket is completely workable — we just plan around it. Before painting we look the jacket over for anything that might affect the artwork and tell you what we find. Return shipping is normally included in your quotation.

Care

Fabric colours are heat-set after painting so the artwork bonds with the denim. For the best long-term care we recommend gentle hand washing in cold or normal water with a mild detergent — no soaking, no bleach, and no scrubbing over the artwork. Air-dry in the shade, and iron inside out or under a cloth rather than directly over the painted area. Care guidance suited to your particular jacket comes with the finished piece.

What it costs

Priced per piece, because a single-motif pocket design and a full painted back are different amounts of work. You get a figure and a timeline in writing before anything is painted.
